This is an important message from the Township of Fairfield. The Fairfield Office of Emergency Management continues to constantly monitor potential flooding conditions involving the Passaic River and how this might impact the community.

The Township of Fairfield remains in a local state of emergency. As of 10:15 AM on Tuesday, December 19th, the Passaic River gauge at Pinebrook reached 21’. The Passaic River is still projected to rise to 22.3’ by Wednesday, December 20th at 7 am.  At these levels, the township is expected to have moderate to major flooding in some parts of the town that may affect homes, businesses and will cause the closing of roadways.

The following major roadways are closed:

  • Bloomfield Avenue
  • Little Falls Road @ Pier Lane
  • Horseneck Road between Hollywood Avenue and the Montville line
  • Two Bridges Road into Lincoln Park
  • Greenbrook Road @ Passaic Avenue

To see a list of all affected roadways and precautions that can be taken to protect your property, citizens can go to the Township of Fairfield’s website at www.fairfieldnj.org. You can also call the Township’s flood hotline at (201) 522-9267. This phone will remain available throughout this emergency.

Citizens and business owners in flood prone areas are encouraged to take all necessary precautions to protect property by elevating it and by moving vehicles to higher areas. Operators of motor vehicles should not drive through flooded roadways. The sandbag station located at the Fairfield Public Library remains open 24/7.

The Office of Emergency Management attempts to provide our community with the best available flood information that it can, based upon current and historical data. However, because each potential flood is different, how it impacts areas of town may also be different.
