This is an updated message from the Fairfield Office of Emergency Management regarding current and potential flood conditions. As of today, Tuesday December 19th at approximately 7:15 PM, the Passaic River Gauge at Pinebrook showed the river height to be 21.43’. The latest prediction indicates that the Passaic River is still expected to crest at an elevation of 22.3’ on December 20that 7 AM. Currently, water continues to rise, and residents and business owners are encouraged to monitor conditions at their homes and places of businesses as these conditions can quickly change.

The following major roadways still remain closed as of this report:

  • Bloomfield Avenue
  • Little Falls Road @ Pier Lane
  • Horseneck Road between Hollywood Avenue and the Montville town line
  • Two Bridges Road into Lincoln Park

In addition, on Route 46 East in Wayne, just prior to the Willowbrook Mall, water is impacting all lanes of traffic. This condition most likely will worsen in the next few hours and may result in the closure of Route 46 Eastbound. All of these closures are causing major traffic delays. Citizens are encouraged to limit travel and to never drive through flood water.

To see a list of all affected roadways and precautions that can be taken to protect your property, citizens can go to the Township of Fairfield’s website at www.fairfieldnj.org. You can also call the Township’s flood hotline at (201) 522-9267. This phone will remain available throughout this emergency.

A sandbag station remains open at the Fairfield Public Library on a 24 hour basis.

The Office of Emergency Management attempts to provide our community with the best available flood information that it can, based upon current and historical data. However, because each potential flood is different, how it impacts areas of town may also be different.
