Deputies Arrest Man for Unprovoked Stabbing of a Pedestrian

LOCATION: Cedar Avenue & Bloomington Avenue, Unincorporated Bloomington
VICTIM: Adult Male
SUSPECT: Alex Monjaraz, a 31-year-old male resident of Bloomington
SUMMARY: On Thursday, December 14, 2023, at about 11:20 a.m., deputies responded to a stabbing near the intersection of Cedar Avenue and Bloomington Avenue, unincorporated Bloomington.
Deputies arrived and rendered medical aid to two people with stab wounds. Through investigation, deputies determined the victim was walking on the sidewalk when he was suddenly approached by Alex Monjaraz, a 31-year-old male resident of Bloomington. Monjaraz suddenly armed himself with a knife and stabbed the victim. The victim disarmed Monjaraz and, in self-defense, stabbed him with the knife.
Deputies located the knife used in the assault and several other knives at the scene. The victim and Monjaraz were transported to a local trauma center. This was an unprovoked attack and initial information does not indicate any type of relationship or association between Monjaraz and the victim.
Following the initial investigation, Monjaraz was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center. He remains hospitalized to receive treatment for injuries sustained during this incident.
