On Friday, December 15, 2023, at approximately 00:36 am, a Petaluma Police Department officer located an occupied vehicle that had been reported stolen the day prior, out of the City of Healdsburg.
 
PPD officers performed a high-risk stop and the driver, later identified as Alfonso Romero-Zuniga (30-year-old, Sonoma County resident) was detained without incident. The passenger was identified as Juan Guzman-Santiago (42-year-old, Sonoma County resident). A records check revealed both Romero-Zuniga and Guzman-Santiago were on multiple active probations out of Sonoma County.
 
While performing the high risk stop, a female approached officers and verbally began challenging them. The female, later identified as Susana Arias (33-year-old, Santa Rosa resident), stated she had just bought the vehicle and was acquaintances with Romero-Zuniga and Guzman-Santiago. Arias was detained without incident and was also on active Sonoma County probation.
 
Officers performed a search of the vehicle and located a punched ignition and multiple items of suspected stolen property. Guzman-Santiago was later found to be in possession of the ignition cover.
 
All three suspects were transported and booked into Sonoma County Jail for 10851(a) VC – Vehicle Theft; 496d(a) PC – Possession of Stolen Vehicle; and 1203.2 PC – Probation Violation.
 
The investigation is still ongoing as the owner(s) of the recovered property have not yet been identified. If anyone has information regarding this incident, please contact Officer Jacob Boes at (707)781-1262.
 
This was the third stolen vehicle recovered by Petaluma PD patrol officers working night shift between 12/13-12/15. The vehicles were originally stolen from Vallejo, San Rafael, and Healdsburg.
