Shooting on the 18900 block of Woodcrest
At approximately 8:00 AM, Harper Woods officers were called to the area of Woodland and Kelly for a female inside of a vehicle who had been shot. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she is currently being treated for her injuries.
Shortly after the initial call to Kelly Road, officers received information that the shooting may have taken place in the 18900 block of Woodcrest. Officers responded, located evidence, and immediately began to canvas the area for a suspect. A home was identified as a possible location where the suspect could be located. Due to the severity of the incident, the Eastern Wayne Special Response Team was activated. They made entry into the home but did not locate a suspect at that time.
We believe that there is a personal connection between the suspect and the victim and that this was not a random act.
Additionally, there was false information being spread via social media that this was a school-related incident. The school lockdowns were ordered as a precaution due to their proximity to both crime scenes. This is standard operating procedure to ensure that our children are kept safe until we are satisfied that there is no longer a threat in the area. Those lockdowns were lifted at 12:10 PM.
I will provide updates as I get additional information.
