Detective Kyle Gibson with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged 46-year-old Robert Andrew Higgins of Asheville with felonious Identity Theft. Higgins was issued a $15,000 secured bond.
An investigation started on June 28th when deputies from the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office took a report of fraud, alleging Higgins opened an account under a female victim’s name and was using it solely to tarnish her credit. The lengthy investigation led detectives to evidence that identified Higgins as the individual who opened the account. Higgins was arrested on December 7th on these charges.
