Narrative: | |||||
The Camarillo Police Department Investigative Units partnered with multiple retail stores at the outlets to combat organized retail theft crews. The operation resulted in four arrests and returned $1,781.48 in merchandise back to six retailers located at the Camarillo Outlets. One of the incidents involved three subjects who worked in concert to facilitate the theft, one of which was waiting in a getaway vehicle. Another incident involved the use of burglary tools to circumvent the security measures of one of the retails stores. Both of these incidents displayed the coordination and pre-planning that goes into these theft attempts. The charges for the four arrests included: PC 487(a) - Grand Theft of Property over $950 PC 182(a)(1) - Conspiracy of Two or More to Commit a Crime PC 272 – Contributing to a Delinquency of a Minor PC 466 – Possession of Burglary Tools PC 459.5 - Shoplifting The Camarillo Outlets bring thousands of shoppers to the city of Camarillo. This increase in shoppers also increases the number of thefts from retailers and visiting patrons. This often results in thousands of dollars in losses to the retailers, lost revenue for the city and can create an uncomfortable shopping experience for retailers and patrons alike. The Camarillo Police Department often partners and builds working relationships with retailers in the city to promote a friendly and safe shopping environment for residents and visitors alike. Over the last two years, the county has seen a large increase in thefts from retailers and patrons from people visiting from outside of Camarillo. These include distraction thefts, pickpockets, and identity theft. These joint partnerships and high visibility operations help aid in reducing those crimes. The Camarillo Police Department would also like to remind shoppers to be diligent and be aware of their surroundings and not leave personal belongings unattended regardless of where they shop this holiday season. We would also like to thank those citizens who assist and increase the success of our agency by reporting suspicious activity. |
