Beware of Porch Pirates
As the holiday season brings an increase of delivery trucks dropping off packages of all shapes and sizes on doorsteps throughout the Town! It also brings in a large number of porch pirates eager to snatch up those packages faster than the Grinch on Christmas Eve.
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) wants to remind our community members of some safety tips to keep those packages secure:
Give Delivery Location Instructions: Some delivery companies allow you to submit instructions online or through their app for drivers to leave packages at specific locations.
Use a Package Delivery Box: Instead of deliveries to your residence, consider having them delivered to designated pick-up locations.
Sign up for Delivery Alerts: Many delivery companies offer the option to sign up for delivery alerts via text or email, enabling you to track your package in real time and retrieve it promptly upon delivery—before a Grinch can intervene.
Have Packages Delivered to Your Work: For a more secure delivery option, if feasible, opt to have shipping companies send packages to your workplace rather than your home, thwarting the plans of a package Grinch.
