Police Identify Driver Killed in Christmas Eve Crash

DRIVER IDENTIFIED IN FATAL CHRISTMAS EVE CRASH

A one-car crash early Christmas Eve morning on Route 1 has claimed the life of Vedant Tiru age 23 of South Brunswick.

The crash was reported at 12:53 AM on Route 1 South by New Road. Tiru was driving a 2012 Honda Accord southbound on Route 1. According to witnesses, Tiru was in the left lane when he lost control, slid sideways across the roadway, and struck a utility pole. Tiru was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Kendall Park First Aid, Kendall Park Fire Department, Middlesex County Medical Examiner, and New Jersey State Department of Transportation responded to the crash. Route 1 South was closed for several hours during the investigation. 

At 7:25 AM a fire truck from the Kendall Park Fire Department was clearing from the crash scene when they were struck by another vehicle. The fire truck was on New Road crossing over Route 1 when a car headed north on Route 1 failed to stop at the red light. The car and fire truck impacted in the intersection. There were no injuries and the 57-year-old Milltown driver was issued several summonses.
