Crime Blotter for the Week of December 17, 2023 – December 23, 2023

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of December 17, 2023 – December 23, 2023.        
 
 
December 17, 2023

  • Burglary (Commercial):
2221 Huntington Drive (India Food and Spices). On December 17, 2023 at 2:07 AM, suspect(s) unknown shattered the front glass door to the location. Unknown if the suspect made entry due to no evidence of loss. A possible surveillance video is available.
 
  • Burglary (Commercial):
2229 Huntington Drive (Redwood Pizza and Wings). On December 17, 2023 at 2:08 AM, suspect(s) unknown shattered the front glass door to the location. Unknown if the suspect made entry due to no evidence of loss. A possible surveillance video is available.
 
  • Petty Theft:
1500 Duarte Road (City of Hope). On December 17, 2023 between 7:10 PM and 10:30 PM, suspect(s) unknown stole the victim’s iPhone 11 that was left unattended on the counter of the nursing station. Using the find my iPhone application, the phone showed a current location at a location in Pacoima. The loss was approximately $500. No surveillance video is available.
 
December 18, 2023
  • Petty Theft (Shoplifting):
1050 Huntington Drive (Target). On December 18, 2023 at 3:19 PM, suspects unknown, two male black adults in there 30’s, entered the location and went directly to the electronics department. The suspects were able to enter a locked display case and take four “Nintendo” joy-Con controllers in anti-theft security boxes, where they stepped on the cases and broke them open. The suspects concealed the controllers under their sweaters and exited the location without attempting to purchase the items. The suspects entered a white BMW four door sedan with a license plate of CZ23F67. The loss was approximately $320. Surveillance video is available.
 
  • Grand Theft:
1050 Huntington Drive (Target). On December 18, 2023 at 3:19 PM, the suspect a male hispanic adult, 24 years old, wearing a black hoodie and black shorts, entered the location and began to fill his shopping cart with numerous random items through the store. The suspect exited the location without attempting to purchase the items, where store loss prevention detained him for the theft. The suspect was arrested by responding deputies. The recovered stolen items were valued at approximately $980. Surveillance video is available.
 
December 19, 2023
  • Robbery (Strong Arm):
Highland Avenue / Huntington Drive. On December 19, 2023 at 3:45 PM, suspect(s) unknown, a male hispanic adult in his 30’s wearing a grey t-shirt, and black shorts and a male hispanic juvenile wearing a white t-shirt, and dark pants, approached the victim in a burgundy sedan. The suspects exited the vehicle and grabbed the victim by the front of his hoodie and began to shake him. The suspects stated, “this is Duarte Eastside” and stole the victim’s gold necklace rom around his neck. The suspects entered the burgundy vehicle and fled the area. The loss was approximately $2,000. No surveillance video is available. The juvenile was identified and cited with a promise to appear in juvenile court.
 
December 20, 2023
  • Grand Theft:
2400 Block of Maynard Drive. Between December 19, 2023 8 PM and December 20, 2023 1 PM, suspect(s) unknown stole the catalytic converter from the victim’s parked vehicle, a silver 2015 Toyota Prius. The loss was approximately $2,500. No surveillance video is available.

December 22, 2023
  • Grand Theft:
1470 Mountain Avenue (Best Buy). On December 22, 2023 at 9:03 PM, suspect unknown, a male hispanic adult, 25 years old, wearing a gray sweater and black pants, entered the location, entered the audio section, and placed two speakers inside his cart. He proceeded to the home goods section, where he selected a “Dyson" humidifier and returned to the audio section, where he selected a pair of “JBL” speakers. The suspect exited the location without attempting to purchase the items and entered a silver SUV driven by an unknown person. The loss was approximately $2,000. Surveillance video is available.
 
December 23, 2023
  • Petty Theft:
2000 Block of Windsor Circle. Between December 22, 2023 9 PM and December 23, 2023 7:30 AM, suspect(s) unknown entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle, a white 2018 Toyota Tundra, and stole her checkbook and sunglasses. The loss was approximately $260. No surveillance video is available. 
 
  • Grand Theft Auto:
1600 Mountain Avenue. On December 23, 2023 between 3:18 PM and 3:25 PM, suspect(s) unknown stole the victim's parked vehicle, a silver 2000 Chevy Silverado. No surveillance video is available. 
 
Duarte Municipal Code
9.18.040 – Graffiti prohibited
No person shall place or caused to be placed graffiti on any public or privately-owned property, building or structure, including natural and manmade objects, within the City.

9.18.070 – Parental and minor liability
Pursuant to California Civil Code Section 1714.1(b) and Government Code Section 38772, each parent or legal guardian having custody and control of a minor who places graffiti on any public or privately owned structure, building, or property, including natural and manmade objects within the City, shall be jointly and severally liable with such minor for any and all costs incurred in connection with the removal of any graffiti caused by the minor, including all abatement costs, attorneys’ fees, court costs, removal costs, costs of repair and/or replacement, and the law enforcement costs incurred by the City in identifying and apprehending the minor. The liability of each parent or guardian shall not exceed the amount set by the California Judicial Council in accordance with California Civil Code Section 1714.1(c). Such liability shall be a personal obligation of each parent or guardian and shall constitute a lien or special assessment on property owned by each parent or guardian pursuant to chapter 9.32 of this Code. The City is authorized to initiate legal action to enforce this section, or to recover these costs by any other means provided by law. Disposition of a criminal prosecution relating to placement of graffiti does not preclude the City from seeking full cost recovery as provided herein.
