OPD News:

OPD Prepares for New Year’s Eve Celebrations

As we approach the celebration of New Year's Eve, the Oakland Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community. In line with this commitment, we would like to inform you about the enhanced police deployment and safety measures that will be in place during the New Year's Eve festivities.

D.U.I. Checkpoint:

To deter and prevent impaired driving, the Oakland Police Department will be conducting DUI checkpoints at strategic locations throughout the city. We strongly advise all residents and visitors to celebrate responsibly and plan ahead for a safe ride home if they choose to consume alcohol.

Increased Police Staffing:

Our officer presence will be bolstered with additional personnel on New Year's Eve to provide a heightened presence and rapid response to any emergencies. This increased staffing will help ensure a swift and effective response to 9-11 calls and enhance overall public safety.

Patrols and Community Engagement:

There will be an increase in police patrols throughout the city, focusing on key areas and NYE events. Officers will be actively engaging with the community to foster positive interactions and address any concerns that may arise. We encourage residents to approach and communicate with our officers during these patrols.

Gunshot Response:

Celebratory gunfire places everyone in our community in harm’s way. We will be actively monitoring for any instances of gunfire, and officers will respond promptly to address these concerns. We urge everyone to report this activity and refrain from engaging in such dangerous activities.

Sideshow Prevention:

Special attention will be given to preventing and addressing sideshows, which can pose a threat to public safety. The Oakland Police Department is committed to ensuring that our streets remain safe for everyone, and measures will be in place to deter and disperse any illegal sideshow activities.

As we come together to welcome the New Year, we ask for your cooperation and support in making Oakland a safe and enjoyable place for all. We encourage residents to report any suspicious activities or concerns to the Oakland Police Department through our non-emergency line at (510)777-3333.

On behalf of the Oakland Police Department, we wish you a happy and safe New Year's Eve celebration.
