DETAILS: On December 29, 2023, at approximately 3:51 pm, Officers were dispatched to a major crash involving 2 vehicles at Amarillo Boulevard West and Tennessee. On arrival, Officers found a red Chevrolet Suburban with extensive front distributed damage. Officers also found a Gray Nissan sedan with extensive damage. The Chevrolet had been traveling westbound on Amarillo Boulevard. The Nissan was driving eastbound on Amarillo Boulevard at a high-rate of speed. The driver of the Nissan lost control causing the Nissan to go into a side skid and into oncoming traffic. The front of the Chevrolet struck the passenger side of the Nissan. The driver of the Nissan was Kaylaa Kirkland, age 26, and she was transported to an area hospital where she died as a result of injuries from the crash. The driver of the Chevrolet received serious injuries and was also transported to an area hospital. Speed is a factor in this crash. Judge Gary Jackson was notified. The next of kin for Ms. Kirkland was notified. The Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Dept is investigating the incident.
