On December 31, 2023, at 12:23 a.m. Gibson County Central Dispatch received a 911 report of a disturbance in the 400 block of South Jackson Street.  Deputy Wyatt Hunt arrived on scene and began an investigation into the incident.  With the assistance of Deputy Bart Wagner, Deputy Hunt spoke with all parties involved in the incident.  At the conclusion of his investigation Deputy Hunt attempted to  place 36 year old William Mauer of Oakland City into custody, but Mr. Mauer began to actively fight the deputies.  Ultimately Mr. Mauer was able to be taken into custody by the deputies with the assistance of Oakland City Officer Michael McGregor.  Mr. Mauer was then transported to the Gibson County Jail where he was charged with Battery, Battery on an Officer, Resisting Law Enforcement, and Disorderly Conduct.  He remains in custody on a $650 bond.
