INCIDENT: In-Custody Death Investigation
LOCATION: West Valley Detention Center, 9500 Etiwanda Ave, Rancho Cucamonga
DECEASED PARTY: Adult Male
SUMMARY: On December 22, 2023, the inmate was transported to a nearby hospital for medical complaints. He was admitted and treated in the intensive care unit. On December 29, 2023, he was released from intensive care and transferred to the hospital’s jail ward. That afternoon, his condition deteriorated, and he was transferred back to the intensive care unit. He was pronounced deceased at 6:28 p.m.
Detectives with the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division responded and are conducting the investigation. The inmate’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
