IMPD arrested a man Monday night for his alleged role in Monday morning’s double homicide on the northwest side.
IMPD detectives arrested 52-year-old Jason Lapsley Monday night for his alleged role in Monday morning’s double homicide on the northwest side.
On Monday, January 1, 2024, at approximately 5:50 am, IMPD Northwest District officers were dispatched to the area of Michigan Rd and Grandview Dr on a report of a vehicle crash. When officers arrived, they located an adult male, later identified as 45-year-old Justin Boyd, and adult female, later identified as 42-year-old Jasmine Ivy-Dede, inside a pickup truck that was off the roadway. Officers observed both individuals inside the vehicle had trauma to their bodies. Officers were unable to immediately identify if the trauma was a result of gunshot wounds. IEMS arrived and unfortunately the victims were pronounced deceased on scene.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office responded and is assisting.
After the examination of the bodies, detectives believe the injuries to the victims are consistent with gunshot wounds. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will determine the exact manner and cause of death.
Detectives continued to investigate and, based on various evidence including cooperative community members, were able to identify Jason Lapsley, as the alleged suspect. Hours after the incident Lapsley was located thanks to information provided by members of the community and was subsequently arrested for murder.
An arrest is merely an accusation. The suspect should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The MCPO will make the final charging decision.
