Newark Police Department Crime Blotter Dec 25-31, 2023
The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.
MONDAY, DECEMBER 25, 2023:
1:00 AM: Officer Riddles investigated a collision in the 35700 block of Newark Boulevard where a vehicle collided into a parked vehicle. Upon arrival, officers discovered the driver, a 27-year-old male out of Newark, collided with four parked vehicles. He was determined to be driving under the influence and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
3:40 AM: Officer C. Torres arrested a 19-year-old male out of Newark for being drunk in public and resisting arrest. He was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
7:39 AM: Officer McCuin arrested a heavily intoxicated 41-year-old female out of Newark after she struck her 21-year-old son on the top of his head with a chef’s knife causing injury. She was booked into Santa Rita Jail for assault with a deadly weapon.
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 26, 2023:
9:28 AM: Officers investigated five auto burglaries in the area of 37300 Suncrest Street that occurred overnight. Entry was made via window smash.
10:49AM: Officer Williams investigated the theft of a catalytic converter from a parking lot on Newpark Mall Road. The theft occurred between 6:00 PM and 1:45 AM the night prior.
1:12 PM: Officer McCuin investigated the report of a stolen vehicle from Farnham Drive.
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 27, 2023:
6:01 AM: Officer C. Torres investigated an auto burglary that occurred in the area of Newpark Mall Road. No reported loss and entry was made via window smash and occurred between 1:30 AM and 6:00 AM.
2:07 PM: Officer McCuin investigated an auto burglary that occurred in the 39000 block of Cedar Boulevard. The loss was a jacket and entry was made via window smash.
5:22 PM: Community Service Officer Lau investigated a grand theft of a men’s diamond ring from a business on Newpark Mall Road.
7:26 PM: Officer Townsend investigated a non-injury collision on Jarvis Avenue. One of the drivers, a 22-year-old male, was impaired and arrested by Officer Townsend for driving under the influence. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
9:35 AM: Officer Medina investigated a strong-armed robbery in the area of Mayhews Landing Road. The victim was walking to their front door, when confronted by a suspect who took their cell phone, bag, and cash.
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 28, 2023:
9:21 AM: Officer Stevenson investigated a stolen vehicle from the 39900 block Cedar Boulevard.
1:50 PM: Officers investigated a package theft in the area of Coneflower Place. The loss was a Graco car seat.
2:25 PM: Officer Lara was dispatched to a report of a suspected stolen vehicle in a parking lot off Mowry Avenue. He located a suspect, a 40-year- old male out of Newark, in the area. The suspect was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
3:54 PM: Officer Orozco investigated an auto burglary in the 6200 block Joaquin Murieta. No reported loss.
5:14 PM: Officer C. Torres investigated a robbery from a business on Thornton Avenue. While in the process of shoplifting, the suspect brandished a hatchet at an employee. The employee was not injured, and the suspects fled the scene.
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 29, 2023:
7:32 AM: Alert citizens reported a suspicious person riding around on a bicycle looking into vehicles in the area of Joaquin Murrieta. Officers arrived on scene and contacted a subject matching the given description. A 39-year-old male, was arrested for felony warrants, possession of identification and credit cards in the name of others, drugs and drug paraphernalia. Officer Orozco arrested and booked him into Santa Rita Jail.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 30, 2023:
6:32 AM: Officer Orozco investigated the report of a burglary of a business in the area of 36700 Cedar Boulevard. No reported loss.
6:35 AM: Officer Piquette investigated a commercial burglary on Jarvis Avenue. Loss was a carton of cigarettes and a cash register.
8:37 PM: Community cameras alerted officers to a stolen vehicle entering the city. Officer Riddles checked the area of Walnut Avenue where she previously recovered an unoccupied stolen vehicle Thursday night. Officer Riddles located the stolen vehicle with two subjects standing outside of the it. One suspect immediately fled on foot and then the second suspect, a 34-year-old male out of Newark, fled on foot. Officer Riddles gave chase and caught him after a brief foot pursuit. He was arrested for a variety of charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, and probation violation. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 31, 2023:
5:02 AM: Officer Soto investigated a commercial burglary in the area of Stevenson Boulevard and Balentine Avenue.
9:10 AM: Officer Williams investigated an auto burglary via window smash in the area of Haley Street. The loss was tools.
9:20 PM: Officer Kapu responded to the area of Market Avenue on a report of illegal fireworks. While he was in the area, he observed a male subject ignite illegal fireworks. Officer Kapu cited the 39-year-old male out of Newark and issued him a citation.
