Advisory

Snow Notice for January 5, 2024

The weather forecast calls for a winter storm from Saturday 1/6/24 afternoon through Sunday mid-day. 3 to 6 inches of snow is currently predicted. The Town of Bedford urges our residents to exercise extreme caution for the duration of the expected winter storm, which may make travel dangerous and cause downed power lines and power outages. Our highway employees are prepared to treat and plow roads in response to the predicted storm, and to work with electric utilities to clear trees and utility wires if necessary. Significant wind is not part of the current forecast, so we are not expecting widespread power outages at this time.

Your safety is of the greatest concern! Remember to avoid all fallen wires!!! Assume that all power lines are live and proceed with extreme caution. Do not drive over fallen power lines. If you do see a fallen power line, stay at least 30 feet away from it and anything it contacts – even the ground on which a power line is on may be energized. Do not attempt to move a fallen power line. Remember to listen to the direction of police, fire and utility personnel when navigating roadways.

Call 911 only to report emergencies - which includes downed power lines. Please call the Bedford Police Department directly at (914) 241 – 3111 to report all other non-emergency needs.

If you lose power – please do not call the police. Please refer directly to your utility providers. Each of the providers for the town has an interactive website where you can report and view outages as well as a direct number to report them.

Con Edison at 1-800-752-6633 or https://www.coned.com/en/services-and-outages/report-track-service-issue/report-outage-status

NYSEG at 1-800-572-1131 or https://ebiz1.nyseg.com/cusweb/outagenotification.aspx

Please do not travel unless necessary as roadway and weather conditions are predicted to be dangerous. This keeps the roadways open for emergency response, snow removal and all who must travel to do so as safely as possible!!!

Please help us remove the expected accumulation of snow by removing your vehicles from the roadway and adhering to the Town’s snow ordinance. Vehicles which remain on the roadway are subject to bring summoned or possibly towed due to snow removal needs.

Thank you and stay safe!
