Weather Bulletin for January 9, 2024

Fair Lawn Emergency Management is monitoring another major storm system that will affect our area from late Tuesday morning (January 9, 2024) through early Wednesday morning (January 10, 2024). The heaviest rain will occur between Tuesday evening and early Wednesday morning. Total rainfall is expected to be around 2 -3 inches for the entire event.

Excessive runoff, combined with snow melt, will result in moderate to major flash flooding of rivers, small creeks, streams, and other low lying and flood prone locations. Urban flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas is likely. This will be quicker than usual because the ground is already saturated and there will be significant snow melt with rising temperatures. If you reside in an area that tends to flood, please be prepared for flooding.

Moderate tidal flooding is possible for this event. The Passaic River may see moderate flooding during the high tide cycles.

Saddle River at Lodi is expected to crest Wednesday, at 1200 hours, at 7.2 ft.

Do not call 911 unless you have a life threatening emergency. Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas.

Winds will be 10-20 mph, with gusts to 25 mph. Winds may cause down tree limbs, resulting in power outages.

If you experience a power outage, please call PSE&G directly at 1-800-436-7734.  Register for MyAlerts from PSE&G to report outages and receive text/email updates about the status of the power outage. Text "REG" to 4PSEG (47734). Do not call the Police Department to report a power outage or to ask when power will be restored. 

Please be sure to take appropriate mitigation actions to protect flood prone properties.
