The following message is transmitted at the request of the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center. The Avalanche Center has issued an Avalanche Watch. The Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center in Sandpoint has issued a BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WATCH for the following areas in Idaho: Bonner County - ID, Boundary County - ID, Kootenai County - ID and Shoshone County - ID
* WHAT...The avalanche danger for the warning area may rise to high by tomorrow.
* WHERE...Mountainous terrain comprising the Selkirk Range, West Cabinet Mountains and the St. Joe Mountains of the Silver Valley.
* WHEN...In effect from Mon 08:36 PST to Tue 06:00 PST.
* IMPACTS...A winter storm is predicted to arrive Monday night and last into Wednesday. This storm is predicted to deliver over two feet of snow and strong winds across mountainous terrain. This will likely create widespread areas of unstable snow at upper elevations.
* PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Very dangerous avalanche conditions. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended. Consult http://www.idahopanhandleavalanche.org/ or www.avalanche.org for more detailed information. Similar avalanche danger may exist at locations outside the coverage area of this or any avalanche center.
