Advisory

Strong Storm to Bring Damaging Winds & Heavy Rain Tuesday PM into Wednesday

Beginning Tuesday midday and continuing into Wednesday morning, we are expecting a significant storm to impact most of NJ which is expected to bring strong, damaging winds over 60 mph as well as up to 4" of rain and coastal flooding to Neptune Township. This storm is forecasted to be much more impactful than the recent storms, and may result in urban flooding similar to September 2023's storm, with the additional hazards caused by the much stronger winds. This storm is projected to be at its strongest between 6:00PM tomorrow and 2:00AM on Wednesday, so residents should take the time to prepare tonight and first thing Tuesday morning:

• Do not drive through flooded roads, regardless of whether the road is open or closed.
• Power outages are likely due to the strong wind causing falling trees and downed wires. Report hazards like these to 9-1-1, and report power outages to JCP&L at 1-888-544-4877.
• All residents should park vehicles on higher ground to avoid flood damage, especially those areas in Midtown and Bradley Park that received significant roadway flooding during the heavy rain in late September 2023.
• Secure all loose outdoor items and decorations, and residents with trash pickup tomorrow should bring in their cans as soon as they are empty.
• Charge electronics and flashlights in the event of power outages.
• Report any hazards such as downed trees in roadways or fallen wires to 9-1-1.
• Report any power outages to JCP&L.
• Coastal flooding around high tide is likely, so residents on South/West Concourse and South Riverside should move vehicles and loose items.
• Sign up for Nixle emergency alerts from Neptune Township by texting "NeptuneAlert" to 888777.

Neptune Township DPW has been preparing for the storm by lowering lakes as much as permitted as well as clearing leaves and debris from drains, but keep in mind that heavy rainfall can overwhelm storm drainage and cause urban flooding regardless of any preparation activities. Continue to follow Neptune OEM, NWS Mt. Holly, and your local weather forecast for updates Tuesday morning.
