State of Emergency declared effective 5:00pm Tuesday due to anticipated severe storms! Heavy rain, wind & flooding
Please be advised that Governor Phil Murphy declared a State of Emergency effective at 5:00pm on Tuesday January 9th, 2024 in anticipation of the severe storms which could cause hazardous weather conditions including heavy rain, high winds, downed trees / power lines, power outages and flooding! This storm is expected to arrive in our area tomorrow afternoon and continue into Wednesday morning.
Monroe Township Office of Emergency Management is closely monitoring this storm and Township Department of Public Works & Utility Department have been working hard all day today in preparation for this storm.
Please avoid any unnecessary travel and report all power outages directly to JCP&L at 1-888-LIGHTSS
In case of any emergency, please dial 911!
Safety Tips:
- Make sure that your flashlights and cell phones are charged in case of a power outage.
- Do not use your gas stove to heat your home!
- Always assume that all downed power lines are live!
- If you come across a flooded roadway, please don't drive through it. Turn around and report it to the police department.
- Secure all outdoor furniture, garbage cans & lawn decorations by tying them down or bring them inside.
- Only use generators outdoors and away from windows.
