GTPD Safety Tip: Flash Flooding On Roadways- TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN!

Gloucester Township Police Community Safety Tip: Flash Flooding On Roadways- TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN!

A flash flood is a rapid flooding of low-lying areas and roadways. In the past we have seen many areas in Gloucester Township where the water rose quickly making the road(s) impassible and dangerous, like pictured recently on Hider Lane and on Somerdale Road in 2011.

Other areas like Church Street, Good Intent Road, Chews Landing by Lower Landing Roads, New Brooklyn Road, and other low lying roads are all prone to dangerous flooding.

Be extra cautious and remember:
- Water on the roadways may be deeper than it looks. Don’t risk driving through a flooded roadway.
- Do not approach downed tree limbs or wires that are blocking roadways or near you home. The wires may still be live. Call 9-1-1 for properly trained responders to assess the situation and take action as necessary, including securing the area and notifying utility companies.
- Do not go past/ drive around caution tape, traffic cones or barricades.
