Advisory

Strong Storm to Bring Damaging Winds & Heavy Rain Today into Wednesday Morning

A strong storm will begin to impact Neptune Township beginning around noon today and will continue into Wednesday morning. Our primary concern is the strong, potentially damaging winds which are expected to gust over 65 mph. Power outages are likely as well as property damage due to falling trees and downed power lines. Up to 3” of rain will also be possible, along with coastal flooding during high tide today between 4:00PM and 7:00PM. The strongest wind and heaviest rain is expected after Midnight tonight, so please take the time to prepare your home NOW:

• Do not drive through flooded roads, regardless of whether the road is open or closed.
• Power outages are likely due to the strong wind causing falling trees and downed wires. Report hazards like these to 9-1-1, and report power outages to JCP&L at 1-888-544-4877. Never approach downed wires.
• All residents should park vehicles on higher ground to avoid flood damage, especially those areas in Midtown and Bradley Park that received significant roadway flooding during the heavy rain in late September 2023.
• Secure all loose outdoor items and decorations, and residents with trash pickup tomorrow should bring in their cans as soon as they are empty.
• Charge electronics and flashlights in the event of power outages.
• Report any hazards such as downed trees in roadways or fallen wires to 9-1-1.
• Report any power outages to JCP&L.
• Coastal flooding around high tide is likely, so residents on South/West Concourse and South Riverside should move vehicles and loose items.
• Sign up for Nixle emergency alerts from Neptune Township by texting "NeptuneAlert" to 888777.

Lakes have been lowered and debris cleared from drains, but keep in mind that heavy rainfall can overwhelm storm drainage and cause urban flooding regardless of any preparation activities.
