Severe Thunderstorm Warning - JIA Closures
Please be advised the National Weather Service Jacksonville has confirmed severe weather conditions for Southeast Georgia including Glynn County beginning around 1 PM today.
There is a high potential for significant storm-force winds, tornado threats and power outages through this evening.
There are no evacuations or road/causeway closures planned at this time. Conditions are continuing to be monitored and additional updates will be communicated through Nixle if something should change.
GDOT does not anticipate a closure of the Sidney Lanier at this time, but wind conditions are being monitored and closure decisions could be made during the storm.
The National Weather Service recommends sheltering in place by 1 p.m. through at least 5 p.m., or until weather and wind conditions have subsided.
The Jekyll Island Authority will be closing the following facilities today, Tuesday, January 9 beginning at NOON, as follows:
- Jekyll Island Guest Information Center (24-HR gate service will remain)
- Jekyll Island Authority Administrative Offices
- Jekyll Island Tennis Center
- Jekyll Island Golf Club
- Jekyll Island Mini Golf & Bikes
- Mosaic, Jekyll Island Museum, Faith Chapel, and all Historic Cottages
- Georgia Sea Turtle Center
- JIA-Operated Retail Shops
- Public Restroom Facilities
- Beach Crossovers
Ameris Bank will also be closed at noon today.
Normal operations are expected to resume for all JIA facilities on Wednesday, January 10, unless otherwise communicated.
Be prepared for possible downed trees or power lines and use caution when traversing roadways through tomorrow morning until roads can be cleared.
