Crime Blotter for the Week of December 31, 2023 – January 6, 2024

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of December 31, 2023 – January 6, 2024.        
 
December 31, 2023

  • Aggravated Assault:
1817 Buena Vista Street (VJ’s Burgers). On December 31, 2023 at 7:30 PM, the victim was standing at the location near the bus stop, when a gray sedan pulled into the parking lot and a male black adult, wearing a blue hooded sweater and black sweatpants, exited the passenger side of the vehicle and ran towards the victim. The suspect yelled out “Duroc” while swinging a large knife at him, cutting him on his forearm and shoulder. The suspect ran back to the vehicle that was driven off by an unknown driver. The victim was treated for his lacerations by the LA County Fire Department. No surveillance video is available.
 
January 1, 2024
  • Petty Theft (Shoplifting):
1193 Huntington Drive (Smart and Final). On January 1, 2024 at 2 PM, the suspects, two unknown male hispanic adults, one wearing a black jacket and the second wearing a red sweater, entered the location and went directly to the meat department. The suspects selected multiple prime rib roasts and racks of pork ribs and exited the location without attempting to purchase the items. The suspects entered a burgundy Nissan Murano with a license plate of 9EMA850 and left in an unknown direction. The loss was approximately $670. Surveillance video is available.

January 2, 2024
  • Grand Theft Auto:
1800 Block of Orange Grove Road. Between January 1, 2024 9 PM and January 2, 2024 1 AM, suspect(s) unknown stole the victim’s parked vehicle, a black 2019 Toyota 4Runner. No surveillance video is available.
 
  • Grand Theft Auto:
1000 Block of Portola Drive. On January 2, 2024 between 12:30 AM and 7:30 AM, suspect(s) unknown stole the victim's parked vehicle, a black 2002 Ford F-350. No surveillance video is available.

January 5, 2024
  • Robbery:
1050 Huntington Drive (Target). On January 5, 2024 at 7:35 PM, the suspect, a female black adult in her 20’s, wearing a white hoodie and a purple shower cap, entered the location, walked to the cosmetics aisle, selected multiple woman’s makeup products and placed them into a “Target” tote bag that she had brought with her. The suspect exited the store’s entrance/exit without attempting to purchase the items. As the suspect exited the location, she was contacted by loss prevention, who identified himself as such. The suspect threatened to spray the employee if he attempted to stop her. Fearing he would get sprayed, the employee let the suspect go. The loss was approximately $350. Surveillance video is available.
 
January 6, 2024
  • Rape:
1900 Block of Capehart Avenue. The victim was at the hospital for a mental health hold when she stated a suspect at the location between January 3, 2024 12 AM and January 6, 2024 11:59 PM, sexually assaulted her. Case assigned to the Special Victims Bureau for investigation. No surveillance video is available.
 
  • Burglary (Commercial):
1309 Huntington Drive (Roman Cleaners). On January 6, 2024 at 2:46 AM, suspect unknown, a male adult wearing a white hoodie and dark pants, shattered the front glass door of the location, entered the business and stole the register containing U.S currency. The loss was approximately $200. Surveillance video is available.
 
  • Burglary (Commercial):
1227 Huntington Drive (Natures Cleaners). On January 6, 2024 at 4:27 AM, suspect(s) unknown shattered the front glass door of the location and entered the business and stole the register containing U.S currency. Loss was approximately $50. Surveillance video is available.
 
CRIME PREVENTION TIPS - VEHICLE SECURITY
  • An unlocked car is an open invitation to a car thief.
  • Lock up when you leave your car and take the keys with you.
  • Lock the trunk or tailgate.
  • Close all windows. Professional thieves have tools that unlock cars through the smallest openings.  
  • When you park the car, remove cellular phones and other valuable possessions. Do not leave anything lying on the seat.
  • Lock all valuables in your trunk or take them with you.
  • Lock your car even if you are making a quick stop at the gas station, convenience store, or mini-mall.
