Police Seek Public’s Help Identifying Burglary into Auto Suspect

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé requests the public’s help with identifying the suspect pictured below about a burglary that involved a victim’s wallet being taken from a vehicle on January 6, 2024.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. while the victim was moving items from his residence to his unlocked vehicle, which was parked at the corner of Oliver and Van Buren streets.  The victim flagged down officers after opening the door to his vehicle, which had been ransacked. His wallet containing a debit and credit card, driver’s license, and $50 was missing.

On surveillance video, the suspect pictured below opened the passenger door and walked away eastbound on Oliver Street toward Pulaski Street. He was wearing a black jacket, a light blue/grey sweater, dark jeans, and construction boots.

Director Fragé urges anyone with information about the suspect to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
