INCIDENT: Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center Facility Search
LOCATION: Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center -18000 Institution Road, Devore, CA 92407
SUMMARY: On January 6, 2024, a facility-wide search was conducted at the Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center (GHRC). The operation consisted of numerous personnel from GHRC along with narcotics detection canines from San Bernardino County Probation, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Narcotics Division, and the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. The operation was successful in recovering weapons and dangerous contraband from inside the jail facility. During the search, narcotics detection canines successfully alerted on the presence of narcotics within several pieces of U.S. mail that had been mailed to inmates housed at the facility. Narcotics detection canines successfully alerted the presence of narcotics inside the inmate housing unit. The investigation is ongoing, pending further analysis to determine the type and quantity of narcotics recovered.
Detention staff continues to combat the smuggling of narcotics into our correctional facilities. Using K9 drug detection dogs and advanced investigation techniques, the detention staff has successfully intercepted multiple attempts to bring illegal substances into our county jails and state prisons. These efforts are crucial in maintaining the safety and security of both staff and inmates, as well as preventing the spread of drug-related issues and overdoses within the facilities. The detention staff remains committed to staying vigilant in their efforts to keep our jails drug-free and will continue to utilize all available resources to achieve this goal.
