This is an updated message from the Fairfield Office of Emergency Management regarding current flooding conditions.
As of today, January 10, 2024, the Passaic River Gauge at Pinebrook showed the river height to be 19.71 feet at 4:15pm. The latest prediction indicates that the Passaic River is now expected to crest at an elevation of 21.2 feet on January 12th at 1 am.
Currently, water continues to rise, and residents and business owners are encouraged to monitor conditions as they can change quickly. As a reminder, citizens are encouraged to limit travel and to never drive through flood water.
The following major roadways are closed/flooded as of this report:
• Two Bridges Road into Lincoln Park and Wayne
• Currently, Horseneck Road is starting to take on water across the roadway. We anticipate Horseneck Road closing sometime during the overnight hours tonight and remaining closed for Thursday and Friday.
To see a list of all affected roadways and precautions that can be taken to protect your property, citizens can go to the Township of Fairfield’s website at www.Fairfieldnj.org. You can also call the Township’s Office of Emergency Management at (201) 522-9267. This phone will remain available throughout this emergency.
A sandbag station remains open at the Fairfield Public Library on a 24-hour basis.
The Office of Emergency Management attempts to provide our community with the best available flood information that it can, based upon current and historical data. However, because each potential flood is different, how it impacts areas of town may also be different.
