Alert

Winter Storm Warning until 12:00PM Friday

* WHAT...For the Winter Storm Warning this afternoon into Friday, heavy snow expected, along with blowing snow. Total snow accumulations mainly between 4 and 6 inches, accompanied by north winds gusting to around 35 MPH. For the Wind Chill Advisory tonight into Friday morning, very cold wind chills as low as -15 to -25 expected. For the Wind Chill Warning for Friday evening through Tuesday morning, dangerously cold wind chills of at least -25 to -40 degrees expected, especially during the night and morning hours.

* WHERE...Portions of central, east central, and south central Nebraska, along and east of the Highway 14 corridor.

* WHEN...For the Winter Storm Warning, from 3 PM this afternoon to noon CST Friday. For the Wind Chill Advisory, from midnight tonight to noon CST Friday. For the Wind Chill Warning, from 6 PM Friday to noon CST Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes. The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...For the Winter Storm Warning starting this afternoon, please note that some areas will see the onset of snow before others, and the majority of snow will actually occur this evening and overnight,then gradually end from west to east Friday morning. Within any heavier snow bands, near-blizzard conditions with visibility reduced to around one-half mile are quite possible at times given the moderately-strong winds blowing around the relatively dry snow.

* AFFECTED AREAS: NANCE ... MERRICK ... POLK ... HAMILTON ... YORK ... CLAY ... FILLMORE ... NUCKOLLS ... THAYER
