This is an updated message from the Fairfield Office of Emergency Management regarding current and potential flood conditions. The State of New Jersey and The Township of Fairfield are still in a state of emergency.
The Passaic River is nearing its first predicted crest and is currently at 20.74 feet. The most recent predictions using the Pinebrook River gauge indicate that the river will continue to rise slightly today reaching a crest of 21.1 feet later this evening.
The Office of Emergency Management is closely watching the predicted rain Friday night. Predictions for this Friday event are uncertain; however, the river is once again predicted to rise to 21.7 feet late Saturday night into Sunday. Updates will be given as this forecast evolves.
As of this report, the following major roadways remain closed:
- Bloomfield Avenue (West Caldwell Border)
- Horseneck Road from Hollywood Avenue to the Montville Town Line
- Two Bridges Road into Lincoln Park
- Little Falls Road near Pier Lane and Carlos Drive
It is important that residents who have water in their basements and who also have water surrounding their homes at the same time, resist the idea of pumping out their basement until the water surrounding their home recedes.
