NEWS RELEASE - Structure Fire - Edith St

Date/Time: January 10th, 2024, 3:38 p.m.

Location: 100 Block of Edith St.

Units Responding: City of Petaluma Fire, Police, and Building, Rancho Adobe Fire District

Outside Agencies: PG&E (Gas and Electric Divisions), Sonoma Valley Fire, Gold Ridge Fire District

Narrative: At the above date and time, the Petaluma Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire in the 100 block of Edith St. Arriving in under three minutes, the Petaluma Fire Battalion Chief was the first on the scene to find smoke coming from the attic of a two-story home. After seeing the smoke, the Battalion Chief requested an upgrade to a full structure response. Resources from Petaluma Fire and Rancho Adobe Fire arrived on the scene and quickly made entry into the home. Due to a prompt response, crews quickly extinguished the fire and searched the home, confirming that the sole occupant and dog made it out safely. There were no injuries to the occupant, dog, or the firefighters who responded.

The City of Petaluma Building Department and PG&E responded to the scene and evaluated the home for safety. A “red tag” was placed on the home by the Building Department, restricting the use of the structure.

The Petaluma Fire Prevention Bureau responded to the scene and is investigating the cause of the fire. The Petaluma Fire Department would like to take this moment to remind our residents that having functioning smoke alarms inside the home will not only alert occupants of a possible fire, often before smoke is seen or smelled, but will also allow occupants more time to escape the structure in case of an emergency safely.

The Petaluma Fire Department wishes to thank our fellow Police and Building Departments for responding to the scene and providing support. Additionally, we would like to acknowledge and thank our surrounding partners for their assistance during the incident and for providing station coverage for the emergencies that did occur during the structure fire.
