This is an updated message from the Fairfield Office of Emergency Management regarding current and potential flood conditions. The State of New Jersey and The Township of Fairfield are still in a state of emergency.
The Passaic River has reached its first predicted crest and is currently at 21 feet. We are now actively monitoring another rain event expected to occur tomorrow evening, January 12th, into Saturday morning. At this time, the anticipated rainfall shows the river will crest on Sunday, January 14th at approximately 22.1 feet. Please keep in mind that these are just projections based on the anticipated rainfall. The actual river projection will be more accurate after the rain has fallen.
As of this report, the following major roadways remain closed:
- Bloomfield Avenue (West Caldwell Border)
- Horseneck Road from Hollywood Avenue to the Montville Town Line
- Two Bridges Road into Lincoln Park
- Little Falls Road near Pier Lane and Carlos Drive
It is important that residents who have water in their basements and who also have water surrounding their homes at the same time, resist the idea of pumping out their basement until the water surrounding their home recedes.
The sandbag station remains open on a 24-hour basis at the Fairfield Library.
