National Weather Service issues flood watch, coastal flood advisory, and wind advisory; Flooding possible; Secure loose objects

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch for Hudson County, including Hoboken, from tonight, Jan. 12, through tomorrow morning, Jan. 13. Rainfall of up to 2 inches with localized higher amounts is predicted. Flooding is possible in low-lying areas particularly during tomorrow's high tide at approximately 9:42 a.m. 

NWS has also issued a wind advisory from 10 p.m. tonight through 6 a.m. Saturday and a coastal flood advisory from 7 a.m. Saturday through 2 p.m. Saturday.

Avoid flood-prone areas  

The Hoboken Office of Emergency Management OEM reminds residents to avoid flood-prone areas. Intense rainfall of greater than 0.8 inch per hour could result in flooding. 

Do not walk or drive around barricades or through flooded areas. Do not move barricades.  

Please report flooded intersections and clogged drain inlets by calling the NHSA Hotline at (866) 689-3970.   

Secure loose objects   

Winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected with gusts as high as 50 mph possible.  

Residents should secure all loose objects outside or bring them inside, especially from balconies.  

Outdoor tents should be taken down depending on the wind load. Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle.   

Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines, resulting in power outages.

$5 garage parking available overnight

Residents with valid resident on-street parking permits are reminded there is discounted parking available from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. at a rate of $5 per night in Garages B (28 Second St.), D (215 Hudson St.), and Midtown (371 Fourth St.) Discounted garage space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Regular rates are in effect at all other times.
