OPD Needs Help Locating Vehicle Wanted in Fatal Hit-and-Run

Today, the Oakland Police Department (OPD) Traffic Investigation Unit released photos of a vehicle wanted in connection with the fatal hit-and-run of Antoinette Matthews, a 23-year-old, Stockton resident. The collision occurred on January 1, 2024, just before 12:45 AM, in the 4200 block of International Boulevard. The vehicle is described as a black Ford Mustang (pictured above).

OPD and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering a reward up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.

BACKGROUND:

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating a vehicle collision that occurred on January 1, 2024, in the 4200 block of International Boulevard, just before 12:45 AM. The OPD Communications Division received a report that a pedestrian was transported to an area hospital after sustaining injuries from being struck by a vehicle. Unfortunately, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the collision occurred in the intersection of 42nd Avenue & International Boulevard. Officers located evidence on scene placing the pedestrian on the sidewalk when a vehicle doing “donuts” traveled off the roadway, striking the pedestrian. The driver fled the scene in the vehicle after the incident.

The pedestrian's identity is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were involved.
