Drug Sales and Firearm Arrests, San Andreas

On January 11th, 2024, a collaborative effort by the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office and the Probation Department led to a significant arrest for drug sales.  The case was initiated when law enforcement officers conducted a compliance check on 28-year-old Joseph Chandler.   The compliance check was conducted in the 400 block of Gold Court in San Andreas, pursuant to Chandler being on probation through San Joaquin County.
The search at the residence revealed an array of illegal items. Deputies located approximately 144 grams of methamphetamine, various drug sales paraphernalia, and a .40 caliber rifle.   In addition, an extensive amount of processed marijuana, which totaled approximately 512 grams, was found distributed throughout the house, along with evidence of an illegal cultivation operation and equipment for cannabis extraction—the presence of illegal aerial fireworks added to the illicit cache discovered.
A particularly unusual and concerning find was a fake urine bladder attached to Chandler’s leg, intended to deceive a planned drug test. This discovery highlights the lengths to which individuals involved in drug activities might go to evade drug use detection.
Both Chandler and Brittany Morris, a 29-year-old from San Diego who was present during the search, were arrested and charged with multiple offenses. These include possession of a firearm and ammunition by a prohibited person, possession of a controlled substance for sale, probation violation, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of dangerous fireworks.
This compliance check is a testament to the dedication of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office and Probation Department to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. It also demonstrates the power of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the critical role of community support in these endeavors. The Sheriff’s Office remains determined in its mission to disrupt drug trafficking networks in Calaveras County, and such activities will not be tolerated.
