ARRAIGNMENT/BAIL STATUS: Kassim was processed on scene and issued an appearance ticket returnable to Amsterdam City Court at a later date.
INCIDENT NARRATIVE:
On January 10th members of the Amsterdam Police Detective Bureau conducted an underage tobacco/vape enforcement detail to verify compliance with state laws by businesses licensed to sell tobacco and vape products in the City of Amsterdam. This comes after several complaints from citizens in reference to the sale of tobacco and vape products to underage persons.
An unlawful sale was made to the underage agent at the 189 Express Smoke Shop located at 189 Market Street in the City of Amsterdam. The clerk, Kassim, was then interviewed and issued an appearance ticket on the above charge.
While there was probable cause for this arrest, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
