IMPD Detectives Make Arrest in Friday Homicide.

INDIANAPOLIS- IMPD Detectives arrested 18-year-old Zakii Dawson for his alleged role in a homicide that occurred in the 2900 block of Landola Ln.

On Friday, January 12, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Southwest District officers responded to 2909 Landola Ln., on a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival officers located an unresponsive adult female, inside this residence, with undisclosed trauma. Medics responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. Officers detained a person of interest who was later identified as Zakii Dawson.

The IMPD Homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin their investigation. Preliminary information led investigators to believe a disturbance of some sort occurred before the victim’s death. Detectives interviewed and subsequently arrested Dawson for murder. Dawson was known to the victim. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to identify and collect potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) is assisting and will determine the exact cause and manner of death. The MCCO will release the decedent’s name once a proper next-of-kin notification has been made.

An arrest is merely an accusation. The suspect should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The MCPO will make the final charging decision.
