Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety police officers and firefighters responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision at 7AM this morning on eastbound Rohnert Park Expressway near the railroad crossing. Upon arrival they found a deceased dog in the roadway and an adult male pedestrian lying in the number one lane in cardiac arrest. RPDPS and AMR personnel performed life saving measures, however the pedestrian was determined to be deceased a short time later.
The driver of the involved vehicle remained on scene, was cooperative with the investigation and was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian and his dog were crossing northbound across Rohnert Park Expressway in dim lighting and heavy fog when they were struck.
The Rohnert Park DPS Major Accident Investigation Team is currently on scene conducting the investigation.
