At 8:07 this morning, Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety police officers and firefighters responded to the 4000 block of Dowdell Ave. for a reported hit and run vehicle versus pedestrian collision. The first arriving officer determined that the pedestrian had not been struck, however his dog had been hit and severely injured. The pedestrian and his dog were transported to an emergency animal hospital, where the dog succumbed to its injuries.
The pedestrian told investigating officers that he and his dog were walking on the southbound shoulder when the dog was struck by a lifted Blue Toyota Tundra truck driven by a thin white male adult wearing a black hat. The driver did not stop at the scene and left either toward Golf Course Drive or Millbrae Avenue. The truck sustained damage to the lower front portion of the vehicle.
We are asking witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have information on the suspect and his truck to contact PSO R. Wiegman at (707) 584-2600.
We wish to express our condolences to the pedestrian on the loss of his pet.
