Sheriff's Major Accident Investigation Team Conducting Investigation into Pedestrian Struck by Vehicle Sunday Evening

DATE/TIME: January 14, 2024, at 6:20 p.m.

INCIDENT: Vehicle vs Pedestrian Fatal Traffic Crash

LOCATION: State Highway 18/ Kasota Rd, Apple Valley, CA

PEDESTRIAN: 62-years-old Male, Resident of San Bernardino (Deceased)

DRIVER: 29-year-old, Resident of Apple Valley
VEHICLE: Silver Toyota Corolla


 SUMMARY: On Sunday, January 14, 2024, at approximately 6:20 p.m., deputies from the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station and rescue personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Department responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic crash that occurred on State Highway 18 and Kasota Rd, in the town of Apple Valley.

Through investigation, deputies determined a silver Toyota Corolla was trveling eastbound on State Highway 18 in the number one lane, passing Kasota Road. The pedestrian was walking northbound, walking across eastbound lanes of State Highway 18. The Toyota Corolla struck the pedestrian as he crossed the roadway. 

The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The driver of the Toyota Corolla was uninjured and remained on scene to cooperate with the investigation. 
   
An investigator from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T) arrived and is conducting an investigation. State Highway 18 eastbound lanes were closed between the intersections of  Kasota Road and Corwin Rd for approximately three hours while deputies processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.
