Deputies Arrest Joseph Trapaga for Sex Registrant Violations and False Documentation

LOCATION: 22400 block of Barton Road, Grand Terrace
SUSPECT: Joseph Manuel Trapaga, 57-years-old, transient known to frequent the city of Grand Terrace
SUMMARY: Joseph Manuel Trapaga was a registered sex offender. Trapaga registered as a transient and was known to frequent the city of Grand Terrace. As a transient, by law, he was required to register every 30 days and was to provide truthful and accurate information when registering with law enforcement. When Trapaga failed to report for a monthly registration, Detective Chris Bertetto opened an investigation. Through the investigation, Bertetto discovered several entries that were not accurate or misleading. The misleading entries encompassed multiple registration documents.
On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, an arrest warrant was obtained for Trapaga. On Thursday, January 11, 2024, at approximately 8:15 a.m., deputies assigned to the city of Grand Terrace received a disturbance call in the 22400 block of Barton Road, in the city of Grand Terrace. When the deputies arrived, they contacted Trapaga. Trapaga was taken into custody without incident and was booked at Central Detention Center in lieu of $100,000.00 bail. The investigation was forwarded to the Office of the District Attorney for review and filing.
