Newark Police Department Crime Blotter Jan 8-14, 2024
The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.
MONDAY, JANUARY 8, 2024:
11:52 AM: Officer Williams was dispatched to the area of Jarvis Avenue near Lido Boulevard to investigate a male subject looking into vehicles and rummaging through garbage cans. While checking the area, Officer Williams observed a 42-year-old male out of Newark painting a signal control box. He defaced the entire side of the control box and was also in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
TUESDAY, JANUARY 9, 2024:
2:43 AM: Officer Cervantes responded to several reports of a male causing a disturbance in the area of Argonne Street. She contacted a 29-year-old male out of Newark and arrested him for being drunk in public. He was transported to Santa Rita Jail.
6:18 AM: Officer C. Torres investigated an auto burglary on Newpark Mall Road. Loss was tools and a leaf blower. Entry was made via window smash.
6:53 AM: Officer Lara investigated an auto burglary that occurred in the 37200 block of Birch Street. Loss was sunglasses and vehicle registration documents. Enty was made via window smash.
10:28 AM: Officer Williams investigated a vandalism to a lock on Central Avenue.
11:07 AM: Officer McCuin investigated bicycle theft on Shelter Road.
1:35 PM: Officer C. Torres investigated a hit-and-run collision that occurred in a parking lot on Lafayette Avenue. The suspect vehicle was described as a blue pick up truck that fled the area prior to police arrival.
2:28 PM: Officer Williams investigated a theft in the area of Newpark Mall Road. The victim reported that her keys were stolen from an unlocked locker. The unknown suspects subsequently used the keys to enter the victim’s vehicle in the parking lot and took her purse.
9:49 PM: Officer Townsend handled an auto burglary that occurred in the parking lot of a restaurant. Unknown loss at this time.
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 10, 2024:
11:47 AM: Officer Williams was alerted to a stolen vehicle on Mowry Avenue and I-880. He observed two other vehicles trailing the stolen vehicle. Shortly after, those vehicles were also reported stolen from the area. Officer Williams followed the vehicles north on I-880 but lost observations. Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) Agent Damewood and his team responded to assist with the investigation. All three vehicles were located in a neighboring city. All three stolen vehicles were located, and contact was attempted by an allied agency. One of the three suspect vehicles crashed into parked vehicles and the driver fled on foot. He was quickly detained, and a firearm was recovered. The suspect was transported for medical treatment. Case still under investigation.
9:07 PM: Officer Medina and FTO Cervantes investigated two auto burglaries on Mowry Avenue. Loss was a backpack.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 11, 2024:
2:42 AM: Officer Medina investigated a commercial burglary on Dumbarton Court.
9:24 AM: Officer Torres investigated the overnight theft of a vehicle from Pebble Beach Avenue.
8:16 AM: Officer Slavazza investigated an overnight auto burglary from a parking lot off Newark Boulevard. Loss was tools, and there are no suspects or investigative leads.
11:17 AM: Officer Stevenson investigated a report of a domestic disturbance on Cotton Avenue.
12:24 PM: Officer C. Torres investigated a commercial burglary that occurred on Central Avenue, which appeared to have occurred in the last week. The back door of the business was pried open, and the loss is unknown at this time.
7:47 PM: FTO Herrera and Officer Orozco located a 33-year-old female out of Fremont who had a felony warrant for her arrest. She was arrested her for (2) felony warrants and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
FRIDAY, JANUARY 12, 2024:
12:53 AM: Officer S. Torres contacted a 29-year-old male out of Fremont in the area of Newark Boulevard and SR-84. Officer S. Torres arrested him for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. He was issued a citation and released from the scene.
7:35 AM: Officers were dispatched to the area of Oak Street after a resident in a neighboring apartment reported masked individuals leaving an apartment currently under renovation. Officers arrived on scene quickly, and Officer Frentescu observed a motorcycle leaving the area with a large “shop vac” attached to the rear of the motorcycle while the rider was holding a bucket of tools. The motorcycle was stolen and the driver, a 30-year-old unsheltered male, was taken into custody.
The owner of the apartment responded to the scene and positively identified some of the property attached to the motorcycle. The property was returned to the owner, and he was arrested and booked into Santa Rita jail for burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
7:55 AM: Sergeant Fredstrom investigated a report of a stolen vehicle from the area of 39900 Balentine Drive.
11:32 AM: Officer Piquette located a stolen vehicle in the area of Dupont Street.
12:48 PM: A 23-year-old male out of Newark turned himself in for a warrant for his arrest. He was issued a new court date and released.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 13, 2024:
9:12 AM: Officer Taylor investigated the theft of a vehicle from the 39000 block of Parada Street. The theft occurred overnight.
8:09 AM: Officer Piquette investigated the theft of a vehicle from the 5700 block of Dichondra Place. The theft occurred at 4:30 AM.
12:05 PM: Officer Jackman investigated the theft of a vehicle from the 37000 block of Magnolia Street.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 14, 2024:
1:19 AM: Officer Orozco and FTO Herrera came across a vehicle on Newpark Mall Road near Balentine Drive stuck on the median and blocking the roadway. The driver, a 35-year-old female out of Hayward, showed signs of impairment and was arrested for driving under the influence. She was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
10:53 AM: Officer McCuin investigated a residential burglary in the 37000 block of Magnolia Street.
12:42 PM: Officer Frentescu investigated an auto burglary via window smash in a parking lot off of Bettencourt Street. The loss was tools.
11:22 PM: While investigating a suspicious vehicle on Severn Drive, Officer Herrera determined the driver, a 45-year-old male out of Newark, had placed an incorrect license plate on his vehicle to conceal that it had been expired for 12 years. He was issued a citation for displaying false plates and released on scene.
