Weather Alert: Winter Storm Watch

Winter Weather Advisory. Snow overspreads all areas from south to north through this evening, then continues through the overnight for most. Slippery conditions on untreated surfaces through Tuesday, which includes the Tuesday AM commute.

Snow mixes with or changes to freezing rain, sleet and/or rain late tonight and Tuesday AM near and south of the I 95 corridor. There should be a lull in the precipitation for these areas especially southeast NJ into portions of Delmarva. Some light snow may redevelop here early Tuesday afternoon before ending.

Total snowfall of 1 to 5 inches across the area, with the highest amounts near and north/west of I 95. Snowfall rates around 0.50 inches per hour possible for a time tonight, especially near and north/west of I 95. A light glaze of ice from about I 95 to the south and east.

The coldest air of the season thus far follows this system. Temperatures drop into the teens and single digits Tuesday night, then high temperatures Wednesday mainly in the 20s with wind chill values in the single digits and teens (below zero in the Poconos).

If you must drive, please plan for enough time to get to and/or from your destination and use extreme caution!

​Pursuant to the provisions of §§ 206-21 and 206-27.1, wherever snow has fallen and the accumulation is such that it covers the street or highway, no person shall park a vehicle upon either side of any of the streets or parts thereof listed below, and no person shall cause, permit, allow or suffer any vehicle owned by or driven by him to become stalled or immobile on any of the streets or parts thereof listed below because of failure of said vehicle to be equipped with snow tires or chains in good working order. (See also 39:4-56.1(b))

         Treat all downed power lines as if they are still live. Do not approach or touch any downed line. It is encouraged to charge all cell phones and have extra batteries in the event you lose power.
