* WHAT...Periods of prolonged sub-freezing temperatures as low as 10 degrees.

* WHERE...Val Verde, Kinney, Maverick, Zavala, Frio and Dimmit Counties.

* WHEN...Through 10 AM CST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...While widespread sub-freezing temperatures are currently in place this morning, Tuesday night into Wednesday morning will be even colder for some areas, especially across low-lying valleys.

* AFFECTED AREAS: VAL VERDE ... KINNEY ... MAVERICK ... ZAVALA ... FRIO ... DIMMIT

Instructions:

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above- ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
