The Mesquite Police Department is aware of the scam call that many citizens have recently received. The caller is claiming to be a Mesquite Police Officer and is advising the citizen that they missed jury duty or a court appearance. And, that if the citizen doesn’t immediately send the caller a payment in Bitcoin or gift cards, the police will come to the citizen’s house and arrest them. If you receive a call like this, please do not go to Walmart, Smith’s or any other location and purchase Bitcoin certificates or gift cards at the caller’s request. The Mesquite Police Department will never call a citizen in regard to a warrant, nor request a citizen pay in either form of currency for a warrant or missed court appointment. The payment of all fines and fees for warrants is handled directly through the court in which the warrant was issued.
