AVAOTX The following message is transmitted at the request of the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center. The Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center in Sandpoint has issued a BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WATCH for the following areas: Bonner County, ID, Boundary County, ID, Kootenai County, ID, and Shoshone County, ID.

* WHAT...The avalanche danger for the warning area may rise to high by Wednesday afternoon and Thursday.

* WHERE...St. Joe Mountains of the Silver Valley, West and East Cabinet Mountains, Selkirks of Northern Idaho and Purcell Mountain Range along MT/ID border.

* WHEN...In effect from Wed 09:00 PST to Thu 09:00 PST.

* IMPACTS...15-20 inches of predicted snowfall in mountainous terrain combined with increasing winds will likely create widespread areas of unstable snow.

* PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Very dangerous avalanche conditions may develop. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended. Avalanches may run long distances and can run into mature forests, valley floors, or flat terrain. Consult http://www.idahopanhandleavalanche.org/ or www.avalanche.org for more detailed information. Similar avalanche danger may exist at locations outside the coverage area of this or any avalanche center.
