DETAILS: **UPDATE January 17, 2024**
Investigators have determined that excessive speed was the primary contributing factor to this crash. The Lexus was travelling at over 100 mph just before the crash. The driver of the Lexus was not wearing a seatbelt. The two adults in the Impala both were wearing their seatbelts, and the child in the rear seat was properly restrained in a car seat. The child victim is recovering from their injuries.

On January 11, 2024, at approximately 12:54 pm, officers responded to a major head-on collision involving two sedans at 4800 S. Grand. A white Lexus, driven by a 17-year-old female, lost control, entered oncoming traffic, and collided with a Chevrolet Impala traveling in the opposite direction.
 
The 17-year-old female driver was ejected from the Lexus and pronounced deceased at the scene. The Chevrolet Impala was driven by Joseph Hernandez, 37, with Moses Hernandez, 38, as the front passenger. The driver of the Lexus and the two adults in the Impala, succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
 
A child passenger in the Impala was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Randall County Judge Joanne Garcia Flores was notified and responded to the scene. The family for all decedents have been notified. The Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department is actively investigating the incident.
