OPD Needs Help Locating Vehicle in Connection to Fatal Hit-and-Run
Today, the Oakland Police Department (OPD) Traffic Investigation Unit released photos of a vehicle wanted in connection with the fatal hit-and-run of Kim Barranco, a 59-year-old, Oakland resident. The vehicle, described as a white Toyota Rav4 (pictured above), appears to have been the second vehicle that struck Barranco. Investigators are looking to identify the driver, who may not have known that they struck a pedestrian.

BACKGROUND:
The Oakland Police Department (OPD) is investigating a vehicle collision that occurred on January 9, 2024, in the 2300 block of San Pablo Avenue, just before 1:00 PM. The OPD Communications Division received a report that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and was unresponsive in the roadway. Oakland Fire Department (OFD) and paramedic personnel responded to the scene to assist the pedestrian. Unfortunately, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the collision occurred in the 2400 block of San Pablo Avenue. The involved vehicle struck the pedestrian as they attempted to cross the roadway. The involved vehicle fled the area northbound on San Pablo Avenue after the collision.
The pedestrian's identity is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin.
It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were involved.
