Suspect arrested for felony assault and child endangerment
DATE/TIME: January 17th, 2024 around 2:39 in the afternoon.
LOCATION: 1400 block of Gordon Street, Redwood City

On January 17th 2024 at around 2:39 in the afternoon officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Gordon Street on the report of a family disturbance. The 13 year old victim reported that his mother, Redwood City resident Latosha Smith (49 years old) pointed a knife at his neck and threatened him with it during an argument. The victim fled the residence and called RCPD.
The responding officer’s primary concern was the safety of the 13 year old. Once that was attended to, they focused their efforts on contacting the suspect. Officers responded to Smith’s residence and attempted to get her to come out. She refused. Members of the department’s Crisis Negotiations Unit were requested and responded. They also attempted to get Smith to come out of the apartment, but she still refused.
At around 4:45 PM Officers entered the apartment and arrested Smith without incident. She was book into the San Mateo County Jail for felony assault with a deadly weapon and felony child endangerment. The juvenile victim was turned over to adult relatives.
