Please Join us in congratulating our newly appointed Deputy Chief, Victor Derting and Captains Brian Baumgartner and Andrew Holt.
Deputy Chief Derting has been with the Union City Police Department for over 25years. His experience includes being the commander of both our Support Services and Field Operations Divisions, where he was instrumental in implementing our District Policing model. Deputy Chief Derting has also made significant contributions to the success of UCPD as a SWAT Team member, Major Crimes Detective, Gang Detective in the Southern Alameda County Gang Violence Suppression Task Force, and Supervisor and Manager in the Department’s Investigation’s Unit . Prior to joining UCPD, Deputy Chief Derting served in the United States Military as an Army Ranger.
Captain Baumgartner has 19 years of law enforcement experience and has held several specialized assignments during his tenure, including canine handler, detective, and his most recent designation as our SWAT Team Commander. He has also supervised and managed several programs within the department, such as Crisis Negotiations Team, and the Canine Unit. In his new role as Support Services Captain, he will be responsible for leading UCPD’s Investigations Unit, SWAT Team, Personnel & Training, Professional Standards, Property & Evidence, and Records.
Captain Holt has 19 years of law enforcement experience and has held various specialized assignments, including time as a gang and narcotics detective with the Southern Alameda County Major Crimes Task Force. He has supervised and managed several programs within the department, overseeing the Investigations Unit, Professional Standards, Personnel & Training, and Records. As Field Operations Division Captain, he will lead the Union City Police Department’s Patrol Division, Traffic Unit, Animal Services, District Policing, and more.
